3rd meeting

Yesterday (10/18/2010-1:30pm) I met up with my mentor for the 3rd time. This time we didn't do earrings though, we made BRACELETS! Leather bracelets at that!

First I had to cut two separate pieces of leather from Debra's 50lb ball of it and glue them together (the glue is only to hold them together temporarily). Then sew the two pieces together is securely hold them. Every hole was made with a hammer or a hand sewing punch.

After pricking my fingers to death I finally got both of the bracelets sewn and burned to tie the string off. Then I took a life time picking a choosing what beads I wanted and what design.

Picking a design for my first one was fairly easy, I knew I wanted the little bear bead I had found and just built around it. I designed the blank part of the leather with a cross pattern. I was pretty satisfied:]

I used synthetic thick string to make the end pieces, braided them and simply just tightened the ends.

The second bracelet took much longer, even though it doesn't exactly look it. Those itzy bitzy beads are a pain and I successfully broke the bead needle so I started to have to do do it with my hands. I would have done more but it had already reached 6pm and I was getting pretty hungry.

I really enjoyed it though, next Monday (10/25/10) we plan on making dream catchers, which is pretty swweeeeettt.

Time Spent: 1:30pm-6pm
